Solar PV Panels for UK Homes

Renewable energy is one of the most pressing concerns of the 21st Century. Nearly every country in the world has signed up to the Kyoto Protocol to reduce carbon emissions. Governments around the world have promoted microgeneration with subsidies, grants and feed-in tariffs in order to meet renewable energy targets. The UK at present is struggling to meet its carbon emission targets and is looking to increase the harnessing of renewable energy in a bid to bring the country into line with other European powers.

Enormous technological strides have been made in the last ten years allowing homeowners to do their part for the environment and help the country reach its targets. Microgeneration systems can now be installed in nearly every home in the country. Photovoltaic solar panels are able to generate electricity not just from direct sunlight but also from ambient daylight, enormously improving their efficacy in the UK.

On February 1st the UK government announced full details of their feed-in tariff scheme which enables homeowners to be paid not only for electricity they pump back into the grid but also for the electricity they use themselves for a minimum 25 years. Initial estimates have noted that the UK offering provides a better return on investment than the scheme in Germany where 1 in 10 of the population own some form of microgeneration system. PV solar panels have a vital role to play in changing the UK’s reliance on fossil fuels and now with the government’s help it is a fantastic investment opportunity as well.
